  1. A tie of ONE vote? Way to go SGA. These elections went, for the most part, out of site of the public eye. Perhaps more of your budget and time should go toward student outreach. You all are not doing a good enough job representing the student student body because you all are not trying hard enough to garner interest in the SGA or reach out to students to see what they want, present your platforms, or get their votes.

  2. Hi,

I was the election commissioner for this election season. Just to clarify - when it says a "tie" of one vote, that is due to write-in candidates. We would never want to give a seat to someone who wrote their name in without receiving a number of votes. Low voter turnout is something that happens with uncontested elections and as an SGA we hope to work towards fixing that next Tuesday with amendments to our Election Policy. If you have further comments or concerns about elections, feel free to leave them here or email JMUElections@gmail.com. Have a wonderful weekend :)

  3. I see, that makes a lot more sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

  4. I think SGA could have done more advertising. I saw very little advertising around campus, and only knew about the election because I have a friend in SGA. I think the candidates could have, too, but so many people were basically unopposed that they had no incentive to go out trying to get votes. My friend did tell me that some of the advertising SGA put up around campus before the executive council election was taken down, but there should be more advertisement than that. I hope in the future, SGA is good at getting its announcements out to the students so that more people choose to run rather than apply for an appointed seat.
